FHIR Workspace
Keep FHIR resources and Bundles in a private, browser-local workspace and open them in the validator, FHIRPath, tree viewer, diff, anonymizer and CSV tools.
How the workspace works
The workspace is a private shelf for the FHIR resources and Bundles you're working on, so you don't have to copy and paste between tools.
- Add resources: Import files, paste JSON with Save to workspace, or send a result here from any tool with Open with… → Workspace.
- Each document shows its resource type and FHIR version. Rename, duplicate, export or delete it from its row.
- Open a document in any tool (Validator, FHIRPath, Visualizer, Diff, Anonymizer, CSV, Inspector) with one click. The tool loads it directly.
- Export workspace downloads everything as one JSON file you can keep as a backup or move to another browser.
Where your data is stored
Documents are stored in this browser on this device (IndexedDB), not on a server and not in an account:
- Nothing is uploaded. Other devices and browsers can't see your workspace.
- Clearing this site's data, or using a private window, removes the workspace. Export a backup of anything you want to keep.
- When a tool opens a workspace document, the URL carries only the document's id (
?doc=...), never its content, so links and browser history don't contain your data. - If your browser blocks storage, the workspace falls back to memory for the current tab only.
A typical session
- Import a Bundle exported from a test server.
- Open it in the Validator and fix the errors.
- Open the fixed version in the FHIRPath Debugger to check the values your app will extract.
- Duplicate it, open the copy in the Anonymizer, and attach the scrubbed copy to a bug report.
- Compare before and after in Resource Diff.
Your recent actions are listed in History, also stored only in this browser.
FAQ
Is the workspace safe for real patient data?
The data never leaves your device through this site, but it's stored unencrypted in the browser profile like any other site data. On a shared or unmanaged computer, use synthetic data, or delete the documents when you're done.
Is there a size limit?
Browsers allow sites a share of free disk space, usually hundreds of megabytes or more. Very large Bundles can make tools slow before you reach the storage limit.
Can I move my workspace to another computer?
Yes. Use Export workspace to download everything as one JSON file, then Import files in the other browser.
Do tools save my work automatically?
Only when you ask. Save to workspace stores a document, and Open with… stores the current JSON as a workspace document so the next tool can load it by id. Anything you don't save or send on is gone when you leave the page. Delete documents here when you no longer need them.
FHIR Toolbox is a free collection of HL7 FHIR tools by Omindra Labs. The tools process your data in your browser; it is not uploaded for normal tool operations.
